On August 20, 2015, just two years after the well-received release of album Schizanimus progressive metal guitarist, musician-composer, multi-instrumentalist, and music producer returned with a new album. An album that would prove to become a monumental masterpiece, “Death Is Just A Feeling” is a concept album that contains 6 tracks clocking in at around 47 minutes with one instrumental track plus an all-star lineup. Amadeus Awad is a Lebanese musician who is always stretching the boundaries with his music and lyrics, and it’s no different with his new album.

The background and concept of “Death Is Just A Feeling”.

A while ago, I was, maybe like the rest of us, passing through a phase of extreme self-loathing; I hated everything about myself, felt like I lost everything and the pain was an eternal slow death.
That night, I decided to put an end to this eternity of sorrow and pain, I was too drunk to understand where I am and what I am doing, my mind was set on a single goal, the end of everything.
I decided to take pills, I wanted a peaceful and painless end to the war and pain.

I took a nasty combination of pills, maybe the nastiest I could come up with, I kept on taking pills until my mouth was sore, I was sure the combination of alcohol, Neurontin and Lithium should be enough to help me win the battle.
I slept on my bed, skin getting numb and muscles losing grip, I smiled at the pain and closed my eyes.
Long long hours later, I woke up on the same bed.
And I started having flashbacks, I saw everything that pushed me to the edge going in fast motion, everything was real and cinematic, my family, my very few friends, the love of my life, the hearts I broke, the smiles I destroyed, the happiness I caused, the pain, the sorrow, every part of me was there, and every part of me was already dead.

I was trying to murder the dead.
I was trying to kill an already dead man.
It was then that I knew that I don’t need to kill my flesh to end my pain, I did not need death because it was already there; what I needed was to recreate myself from the inside, and to unkill me, unkill the selves that dwell inside me, to kill death itself, to kill the feeling and reverse its effects.

I decided to do what I do best, I went into the studio and wrote an album about those very moments, the moments I opened my eyes and realized that I was still there, that I was real and that I should love myself.

Because it is all temporary.

Suicide is not a selfish act, it is a struggle, it is a war, it is the last gasp and a last attempt to give life a chance.
We’re still here, and death is just a feeling.

What the critics have said

A triumph in every sense of the word. A guilty pleasure? No, just an intense one!
Martin | Prog Radar

It’s a work of art, and I could easily see someone making a short, very dark movie to this album, to complete the package.
Angelo | 5 Stars | Prog Archives

Amadeus Awad explodes into an album that sounds, feels, and even taste like a unified soundscape of darkness. The way the album is constructed is very bold, it is all built around a center point of real events, and it can capture the listener very fast and throw them into a vortex.
