Refestramus’ “Zombie Love” music video will premiere on Friday, September 27 at noon CT/ 6 pm UK time/ and 10 AM PT. Watch it on YouTube at youtu.be/nce0J_Cwoxo
The song is part 3 of “Intouríst Suite,”the title cut of Refestramus’ latest and second album. Songwriter/bandleader/drummer Derek Ferguson explains, “‘Zombie Love’ delves into the unconventional world of zombie romance, where love persists despite the complexities of immortality.” The music video features Agent M as an alter ego vampire that has lived through the ages. Derek, who’s also a noted industry expert in Artificial Intelligence, designed the video to show fashion changing with the times. “Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) is evolving so fast, there are already more realistic video-to-video tools available now than when I made this a few months ago!”
The group’s been having sweet victories, including their album “Intouríst” now being at #11 on the Relix/ Jam Bands chart.
Refestramus is headed back into the studio to work on their third album with Crack the Sky’s guitarist Rick Witkowski. Coincidentally DrumTalk’s Dan Schinder compared Refestramus to CTS in a recent interview; view that at www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zt-q716sjQo&t=303s.
The first song from this collaboration, entitled “I Ruined Christmas,” will be released on Melodic Revolution Records’ 2024 Christmas compilation.
Refestramus is scheduled to tour the UK and Europe next year.
Refestramus was born May 2020 as Derek’s home studio project during the COVID pandemic. Having been in a variety of progressive rock bands in his native Chicago and an avid listener of Ian Beabout’s Internet radio program “Prog Rock Deep Cuts,” he reached out to Ian to mix and master the recordings. Ian, who plays flute and sings on some tracks on Intouríst, introduced Derek to Colouratura bandmates Derek Pavlic and Nathan James, Saxophonist Mitch Lawrence and Wisconsin multi-instrumentalist Jerry King, who plays bass on Intouríst. Adding prog multi-instrumentalist Dave Newhouse, who contributed accordion, helped Derek Ferguson guide the album to completion.
Refestramus’ debut album, Decoupage, was released in December of 2021. Expose’s Peter Thelen, who has reviewed thousands of Progressive Rock albums over the years, declared it a “Solid opening move.” In 2022, Refestramus released the EP, From the Sublime to the Ridiculous, which featured possibly the “Prog-iest” track on the album “The Devil Returns” – drawing inspiration heavily from Bulgakov’s famous novel “The Master and Margarita.”
