Colin Tench

Short Bio

Colin started out in a band called Odin, alongside John Culley (BLACK WIDOW, CRESSIDA), and they gigged around London for 3 years in the 80s. In 1985, three of them formed BunChakeze, found a singer from LA and recorded one album in 1985vand would not see daylight till its release 25 years later in 2010.

Fast forward twenty-five years to 2010 – Colin Tench met up with John Culley again. John Culley encouraged Colin to release the 1985 recordings of “Whose Dream?” by BunChakeze.

In late 2010 Andres Guazzelli asked Colin if he wanted to work on what would later become Wish You Could Hear. He was hesitant as he hadn’t played in 25 years but ultimately agreed. He wasn’t even fully equipped: he recorded his acoustic guitar with a $5 desktop microphone and the electric guitars through a distortion pedal.

They released the 4-minutes-long rough material in July 2011 to exciting reviews and decided to complete it in full-style: a 12 and a half minutes symphonic rock piece for orchestra and band.

After all these years with a bit of encouragement, Colin reignited his career. He was playing guitar again and met many professional musicians via social media and AIIRadio, Soon he would assemble the group “Corvus Stone” with Pasi Koivu, Petri Lindstrom (Progeland, Petri Lindström Project) and Robert Wolff. In early 2012, the band released their eponymous debut album. Special guest featured Blake Carpenter of the Minstrels Ghost sang some songs.

According to Tench
“I love music. I hate music by numbers. If there is one album I consider to be a template of how to do things, The Beatles White album would be it. Something I realized recently, is that I am not a fan of the genre we call “Prog”. If I list every piece of music I love, all of it falls into that genre tho’! There is a reason. Almost none of my favorite music was aimed at a prog market. It didn’t exist! Did GENESIS, ZAPPA, STEVEN WILSON, BEETHOVEN, PINK FLOYD design prog albums? Nope! Neither will I ever want to.

Colin Tench passed away of natural causes on December 27, 2017.
